For the love of...

Post-it Notes

Yes – For the Love of Post-It notes…Post-It notes give me life. No joke!

I want my future clients or anyone who reads this to get to know the real me. On my social media you will see a series of posts called ‘FACTS About Me!’ #FAM
My ‘quirky’ loves (and hates), experiences and views – the real me. So it would be remiss of me to ignore my love, or expand on my social media post about my love for the humble Post It note.

Did you know post-it notes were invented in the late sixties?

A good fact to know in the event this subject comes up in a pub quiz!

I Love Post-it Notes

For me and a lot of people, it’s a struggle to remember everything. If it doesn’t make it from brain to pen and paper, sometimes it doesn’t stay in!

Or it can linger in the back of your mind. The thought, task or memo pops up at the most inappropriate moment when it can then again be forgotten. Moments like when getting out of the shower. Driving the kids to school, or in the middle of a dog walk!

We all have memory issues at times and there’s no point saying I have the best memory. But I do have the best (sometimes very colourful) memory aids.

Early days & Post-it's

When I started working in an office, I used to have Post It notes all around my computer with various tasks and reminders in sequential order of importance

Once the task was done the Post It note went in the bin and I went on to the next! If another task came up, this was added and placed within the necessary order of importance.

Yes, I know this was wasteful and not very environmentally friendly, but I was new to the admin world back then.

I was an admin assistant for literally everyone within the department and at first, I found it hard to keep up.

Exam Help & Post-it Notes

My treasured Post It notes helped me with my accounting exams.

Post It ‘revision’ notes appeared on the fridge, the doors, and even the toilet wall.
Wherever I would frequent the most, there would be a Post It note on that surface.

It annoyed the hell out of my husband but hey, it worked.

I'm now a qualiFied bookkeeper and gained my Level 3 in Accounting with AAT.

More Memory Aids (& Post-it notes)

Notebooks

I have a notebook for each client which I keep updated with all tasks and where I am with that task. If there is a message or an especially important task to do, this will go on to a Post It as well.

Diaries

I have a lovely hardback paper diary. This reminds me of where I need to be and note my regular, weekly, monthly or quarterly jobs. It's so easy to lose track of the time of the month, even day of the week sometimes! I could use my on-line calendar and even though I use them all the time for clients - me personally, I'm not keen! (Unpopular Opinion, I know! )

Mobile Phones

Mobile phones are fantastic devices to keep our lives in check. I have been known to write a task on a Post it note, stick it to the front of my phone and carry it around with me until the task has been completed. I digress to phone alarms - no post-it required! My client was always amazed how I remember every Sunday to take my regular weekly Covid test (a sign of the times). The phone alarm is a perfect way to be prompted into action when you are not in 'work-mode'. Or alternatively, when you are all too consumed in 'work-mode', a phone alarm can break the concentration. A gentle reminder for you to leave and go to a meeting or pick up your son from school! (Yes - I may have forgotten once, maybe twice, when I was so busy at work, I lost track of the time. Sorry!)

See I told you Post-It notes give me life. No joke!
